Cleaning roller shutters in the winter season

Roller shutters are a great way to protect your home or business from the elements, but they can be a little tricky to clean in the winter. The cold weather can make it difficult to remove dirt and debris, and roller blinds can freeze, making them impossible to open or close. However, it is worth mentioning that regardless of whether they are made of PVC or aluminium, whether they are light or dark in colour, they get dirty in exactly the same way.

So don't wait until spring to clean your roller shutters - if the weather is good for working outside clean them now, and in spring enjoy the free time and trouble-free operation of your roller shutters in the coming season. Since winter has been kind to us this year, here are a few essential tips on how to take care of your outdoor blinds during the winter season.

YES

Check the weather forecast before cleaning your roller shutters. Avoid cleaning them on days when frost is expected, otherwise the roller blinds may freeze again. If it is a few degrees above 0 °C outside, you can clean your blinds without any problem. There are absolutely no contraindications. If it is freezing winter weather outside - do not clean the roller blinds, just as you do not clean the windows during this time.

Put on a hat, jacket

Prepare warm water with a detergent such as dishwashing liquid you have at home and Clean Blind. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners as these can damage the blinds.

If the blinds are frozen, tap them gently with a rubber mallet to break up the ice. Never use a metal tool or hammer as this may damage them

Follow the instructions and when you have finished cleaning the blinds, leave them to dry in a "lowered position", i.e. one that allows them to dry freely.

NOT

Clean Blind is a magnetic device for cleaning PVC (plastic roller blinds) and aluminium roller blinds. As it is a magnetic device, it will not work on metal roller shutters, i.e. on roller shutters reinforced with metal, and steel elements, for example (this is often the case with burglar-proof roller shutters).

Never, never, never ...  clean the roller shutters with a pressure washer, never hose them down with water from the garden hose: in a few months all the mechanisms will rust and you will have problems with their correct functioning.

Tip: if you have plastic (PVC) or aluminium roller blinds you may have additional metal reinforcements in the lower part of the blind (the slat), this is natural. Clean Blind on this slat will not stick well but this is not a problem. When putting the washer on the blind, move the washer a few centimetres upwards (above the slat line) and then the Clean Blind will then stick well.

CONCLUSIONS:

  1. No matter where you live and no matter whether your roller blinds are light or dark in colour- they get dirty; dirt collects in the roller blind box which causes not only a less than perfect visual effect but also numerous control unit failures which affects their proper functioning and trouble-free operation.
  2. With Clean Blind you can clean roller shutters made of aluminium and PVC.
  3. With Clean Blind, you can clean the roller shutter from both sides at the same time.
  4. Clean Blind is indispensable for cleaning roller shutters on windows without the opening function (fix windows) on upper floors and roof windows.
  5. It is a very handy, lightweight and proven way to clean external blinds in a simple, fast and always accessible way.
  6. Its undoubted advantage is that Clean Blind will clean your roller shutter needing only 25mm of distance between the glass and the roller shutter.
  7. If your roller shutters are very dirty or have never been cleaned before - repeat the cleaning process by replacing the water with clean water.
  8. Clean the roller blinds first, then the window.
  9. If you live in a "mild" climate, you can clean your roller shutters all year round. Simply clean them regularly, e.g. twice a year/ or according to your individual needs.
